We get a lot of questions about flooring at our Benton Harbor showroom over the course of any given week. Lately, we've noticed a sudden uptick in the number of people asking about luxury vinyl tile, also known as LVT. The other thing we noticed, is that a lot of the questions we are getting are basically the same across the board. Well, there's only one thing to do when you find yourself in that sort of situation, write a FAQ!
Here are the three most common questions we get about LVT and their answers:
How Does it Hold Up to Water?
Many people know that some flooring materials don't play well with water. These materials can experience all sorts of damage from tracked in snow, water from sinks, or drips from pipes. Wherever there is a risk of water damage, these floors are at risk. This is not so with LVT.
Vinyl flooring is 100% waterproof, so you don't have to worry about the warping, buckling, and separating you can get with wood floors, and the mold and mildew problems that can hide beneath a water damaged carpet.
Is it Durable?
It certainly is! This material was originally created to fill the demand for commercial flooring, that was both inexpensive and durable enough to withstand the rigorous foot traffic of commercial settings. It was strong enough all those decades ago, and in the intervening years, huge advances in materials technology have made it even stronger.
Does it Require Special Maintenance?
LVT is one of the easier flooring options to maintain. The strong wear layers make it resistant to scratching, so you can be a little rougher with it, and the fact that it's waterproof means you can use a regular old wet mop to clean it. Other than that, you basically maintain it like any other hard-surface flooring. Regular sweeping, and the occasional attention from a mop, is about all it takes to keep them looking great!
